Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Man and a Van Edgware is committed to conducting all aspects of its operations in a responsible and ethical manner. This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our own operations and throughout our supply chains. It applies to all staff, agency workers, contractors, and suppliers engaged in providing goods or services to Man and a Van Edgware.
Modern slavery is a serious crime and a grave violation of fundamental human rights. It can take many forms, including forced labour, debt bondage, human trafficking, and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. We recognise that the transport and logistics sector can be exposed to particular risks, especially through subcontracted labour, vehicle sourcing, fuel suppliers, and ancillary services. We are determined to identify, mitigate, and, where possible, eliminate these risks.
Zero-Tolerance Policy
Man and a Van Edgware adopts a clear zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking. We will not knowingly support, engage with, or do business with any individual or organisation that is involved in such practices. All employees and contractors are required to act in accordance with this policy and to uphold the highest standards of integrity and human dignity.
We expect everyone working for or on behalf of Man and a Van Edgware to comply with applicable labour, employment, and human rights laws. Any breach of our zero-tolerance policy by employees may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Any breach by suppliers or contractors may result in suspension or termination of contracts and, where appropriate, reporting to relevant authorities.
Supplier Standards and Audits
Our supply chain includes vehicle hire and maintenance providers, fuel and equipment suppliers, cleaning and storage services, and occasional labour subcontractors. We seek to work only with reputable organisations that share our commitment to ethical conduct.
We communicate our expectations on labour standards and human rights to key suppliers and contractors. Where proportionate and risk-based, we conduct supplier checks, including verifying business registrations and requesting information on labour practices. For higher-risk categories, we may implement audits, site visits, or request documentation demonstrating compliance with labour and human rights standards.
If we identify concerns or potential red flags during these checks or audits, we will work with the supplier to address and rectify the issues within a reasonable timeframe. If satisfactory improvements are not made, we reserve the right to end the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Man and a Van Edgware encourages a culture of openness and accountability. All employees, contractors, and suppliers are urged to report any concerns or suspicions of modern slavery or human trafficking in connection with our operations or supply chains.
Concerns can be raised directly with management or through any established internal reporting routes available to staff. Reports can be made in confidence, and we will take all allegations seriously. We are committed to ensuring that no one suffers any detrimental treatment for reporting a genuine concern in good faith, even if it turns out to be mistaken.
When a concern is raised, we will assess the information promptly, take appropriate steps to investigate, and, where necessary, involve external authorities or specialist organisations. We will maintain appropriate records of concerns raised and actions taken, while respecting confidentiality.
Training, Awareness, and Continuous Improvement
We aim to increase awareness of modern slavery risks among our workforce, particularly those involved in procurement, recruitment, and management of contractors. Training and guidance may cover recognising warning signs, understanding reporting procedures, and knowing how to respond if a potential victim is identified.
Man and a Van Edgware continually reviews its practices to strengthen safeguards against modern slavery. This includes assessing new suppliers, improving contract terms, and refining our due diligence and monitoring processes as our business develops and regulatory expectations evolve.
Annual Review and Statement Approval
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least annually to ensure it remains accurate, relevant, and effective. The review takes into account any changes in our business operations, supply chain structure, legal requirements, and best practice guidance. Where needed, we update our policies, training materials, and supplier requirements to reflect these changes.
The statement is approved by the management of Man and a Van Edgware, who retain overall responsibility for its implementation and for ensuring that appropriate resources are allocated to uphold our commitments. By continuing to operate in line with this statement, we reaffirm our determination to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in all aspects of our business and supply chains.
